History tells us that when we work together, we can make a difference. That’s the story that the members of the Virginia Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen MC like to share every opportunity they get. By bearing the name of men who made history, it’s their chance to tell what really happened during World War II and what the motivation was behind it all. Tuskegee Airmen MC members are often asked – “what is your connection to history?” – their response is always a short history lesson of things most of us never learn about in school – their effort to keep history alive.

Chartered in 2006, this Richmond-based chapter of Tuskegee Airmen MC began only after VA chapter Founder & President, J Law, received blessings from the Boston chapter’s President, Too Strong. J Law wanted to create level playing field for all club members since clubs don’t belong to the club president, but instead to its members. He also really wanted to get involved w/ community hence the beginning of their support of ChildSavers, but he knew that one club couldn’t support them alone. So, he and fellow club members set out to show the community that regardless of whom you are, your color, race, background or profession, when you come together on a common ground, you can do anything.

As Tuskegee Airmen MC prepare for the 3rd Annual ChildSavers Ride, clubs around the area are signing up to be a part of a movement devoted to helping children dealing with difficult events in their lives. ChildSavers was founded in 1924 to help children behind the scenes that witness violence. These kids can grow up reliving unspeakable horror in their adult years. If they don’t get the counseling or treatment that they need, then they likely won’t have the opportunity to do the things they need to do as an adult.

ChildSavers

ChildSavers provides hope & healing for children in the Virginia area. They have on-call counselors who are called to crime scenes so that the healing begins immediately. The members of Tuskegee Airmen MC arrange a ride each year to raise money for ChildSavers. In their first year after only six months on the scene, over 175 motorcycles participated and raised $4,000. Year 2 brought 255 motorcycles and $8,000. For the 3rd year, the event already has 20 motorcycle clubs registered to participate with lots of room for more clubs and independent riders to join in.

J Law shares that “The annual ride for ChildSavers is a win-win situation for the community. It’s a chance to line motorcycles up through Richmond’s city streets. Police escort us to block off the route and we go through school districts so kids can see the different clubs that are riding. We want to be role models so a child grows up to say ‘I want to be like them’. Remember, decisions you make today have an effect on what you do tomorrow. We can’t save the world, but hope to motivate some children and take advantage of this opportunity to be role models.”

Be sure to sign-up to participate in the ride and don’t miss the chance to meet one of the original Tuskegee Airmen during the program after the ride. Past events have included appearances by original Tuskegee Airmen like Colonel Howard Ball of Petersburg, Virginia, 1st year actual fight pilot and Chief Master Sergeant Grant Williams of Chesapeake, VA.

To register your club for the 3rd Annual ChildSavers ride and receive t-shirts with your club’s name listed on the back, please sign-up by May 12th. Riders are welcome to register beyond May 12th but the club name will not be listed on the t-shirt. The cause is great and the benefits are boundless, so please register TODAY!

Let’s make it do what it do TOGETHER!
