An Urban Legend is a kind of modern folklore consisting of stories often thought to be factual by those circulating them. Urban Legends is a name all too fitting for this club known for some outrageous stories often heard about them. These guys often find themselves in certain situations that people wouldn’t believe if they heard the stories. From the rider who has wrecked several times and sustained numerous injuries while his bike remains unscathed, to the rider who rode for miles with no front wheel, these guys are full of stunts and stories that most would consider a myth but are true indeed for these Urban Legends!

Spotlight of the Month
URBAN LEGENDS MC
New York, NY

Urban Legends MC has proven to be much more than a myth by making themselves visible not only within the motorcycle community, but also the community in which they live. Started in 2003 by lifelong friends, Urban Legends MC looks for different organizations to donate proceeds that are collected from their annual trophy party.  The Urban Legends legendary trophy party, which was held on 2/17/07, had 112 clubs in attendance and over 600 people.  Most of the proceeds will be split in between 3 charities which will be decided by the membership. The charities can change year over year depending on the vote.

In addition to their annual trophy party, the members of Urban Legends also participate in the annual AIDS walk in NYC, a sickle cell run each summer and another run for 9/11 victims of the World Trade Center. Another beneficial community effort they all participate in not only as members of this famed motorcycle club, but some as Verizon employees, is the cell phone recycling program that benefits endangered women. This program allows women to dial 911 in case of an emergency, which can make the difference in the outcome of their particular situation.

Like most other organizations, Urban Legends also collects toys and money during the holidays and feed the homeless for Thanksgiving. In conjunction with a few other clubs in the area, they also help produce 2-3 toy drives each year. They also work with other clubs to encourage attendees to bring gifts instead of money to particular parties where they then take the gifts to children at local hospitals and shelters.

Aside from giving back to the community in which they live, the members of Urban Legends strive to attend as many as 100 events a year. Their membership is only eleven strong, but they are sure to be seen all over. So, while you may only see one or two of them at an event, rest assured the others are making their presence known elsewhere.
