The Down South Burners Motorcycle Club (DSB) was established in May 2004 by Thomas McCoy and Doug Wheat, the first true Burners. With the introduction of a New Orleans chapter and their sister chapter, Down South Diamonds, during their recent anniversary weekend, DSB is quickly becoming a popular name in the south. Their main goal is to do their part in changing the outsider’s view of the motorcycle community. By serving their families and the community they live in, they hope make a name for themselves and show the positive side of the bike world.
Their favorite charity is the March of Dimes and they have a long-term plan to offer book scholarships to deserving young, college-bound students in their community. This past January, a local radio station put out a call that their annual MLK celebration was in jeopardy due to several corporate sponsors pulling out of the event for unspecified reasons. Members of DSB along with other clubs, small businesses and community leaders rallied together to raise the $15K shortfall needed to make the event a success. They were able to aise the required funds to host the event themselves while keeping it free for the community.
Members of DSB also helped to establish the Mississippi United Bikers Association, and organization very similar to that already established in North Carolina (NCUBA). Snap “da PRO” used his hometown connections back in NC to help launch this large community of bike clubs down south. It is their goal to unite bike clubs so that all members can know what’s going on in the area and educate one another on the importance of community service.
When asked the meaning behind their name, President, Pluck replies “We are down south and every time we are on two wheels, we burn on every block!” These guys are not just out speeding, that’s just how they do. They love to ride and they love to travel and to take it to the track every chance they get. Watch out for other up and coming DSB chapters including the ATL and NC areas as they grow nationally…
