FEBRUARY 2009

Phive Starr Kittiez MC
Charlotte, NC

Spotlight of the Month
When these ladies step on the scene you will always see them coordinate from head to toe; their unified attire does not only signify sisterhood it will give you just a glimpse of what this club is all about. Dedicated to giving back to their community, the Phive Starr Kittiez (PSK), as their name portrays feel they are women of top quality. President Khandi who was brought up in an improvised family consisting of 11 bothers and sisters is determined to give back, because as she states she would not be who she is today had it not been for some of the organizations the club she reigns over supports. Established in 2006 PSK is the brain child of President Khandi and Treasurer ‘Sweet-N-Low’. The ladies along with founder ‘Sparkle’ knew they had something else to bring to what already existed in the motorcycle community; thus began the start of the Phive Starr Kittiez. The club consisting of nine professional women and mothers is lead by Khandi, President and Karmel delite, Vice President.

The club does accept members that do not have motorcycles; it is a requirement that each prospect have an endorsement or permit & preferably a bike before becoming full members. However because of the economy they do not want to turn anyone away because they do not have 2 wheels. Khandi states that “if you come in with the attitude that I don’t want to ride or I ain’t gonna get a bike, then this is not the club for you.”

The Phive Starr Kittiez lean on a creed of giving back, with a motto of ‘Striving To Accommodate and Render Relief to minimize pauperism’ the “Kittiez” have participated in several community focused activities since their inception into the motorcycle world. Some of which include hosting movie nights at their local battered women’s shelter, by providing movies and food for the mothers and children to enjoy. Each year you will find PSK giving back with their book bag drive for Valentine’s Day this year Phive Starr Kittiez have collaborated with other clubs to host a youth dance. While attending the PRO convention in New Orleans, members participated in the restoration of a home damaged by Hurricane Katrina. In previous years their community service has stretched to assist the Mecklenburg County Parks & Recreation by participating in their annual Young at Heart Ball. You won’t see these ladies boasting about their community service because a true giver gives from the heart and their hearts are Phive Starr.

When asked what they love about the motorcycle community as a whole ‘Sweet-N-Low’ states the major thing she loves about the motorcycle community is the unity clubs tries to show by supporting each other. One thing she would like to see changed, which was echoed by other members, is the price that clubs are charging for their events. Heck with the way that the economy is going I would love to see that also. ‘Honey’ feels that her President leads by “making sure that we all are really doing things for the community.” She also feels that giving back is a great way to unify a club. Speaking of unity, I asked the ladies about how they represent when they attend events, dressed alike from head to toe and ‘Brown Sugaw’ put it best “it shows unity and togetherness and makes you feel like you are closer to someone else. If you are different you don’t have the same outlook, but if you are the same you can have the same perspective.”

And that unity has kept their bond strong; they will celebrate their two year anniversary on April 18, 2009.
